Post atsc tuners
hi, i live in pickering, by the water, and purchased, a channel master 4228 antenna ,and uhf vhf channel master combiner amp, with fm trap, my tv says 1080 i but i was told it does not have a atsc tuner inside, so i am seeing digital broadcast, at a lower lovel, i have been told i need an atsc external tuner.

my tv is a panasonic, tau, does anybody know where to find a good reliable external atsc tuner in toronto , and how much do they cost?
is one brand better to buy,/ or stay away from.

by the way, if i move my antenna slightly it picks up citypulse like hd, or omni 4, the a channel.,
i get about 17 channels, but obviously, some are fuzzy

forgive my technically challenged use of words for ota.
i am very new at this,

thank you in advance

I don't think that one brand is better than another in this case; everything is manufacturered in China. You would need to look at the specificitions of what the OTA antenna does (ie, how much can it bring in).

Here's my 2 cents...

ATSC is a US regulatory body working under the ausipces of the FCC. I think Canada, from a regulatory position, may be fence sitting on adopting the ATSC standards. According to the CRTC the digital OTA switch won't be happening until 2011. We here in Canada don't seem to be in a great rush.

So the manufacturers may not really be looking to Canada as a hot market.

Try importing one. I can't say I know of any US dealers off hand, but if anything comes up I'll post it here.

8-)

There are some cheap one you can find in Amazon, or Ebay, but they are cheap, means the quality is not good. They use the RCA output, no HDMI output. They made it for analog TV.

If there's no HDMI output, there's no good picture.

It costs about $100 to get a good one with HDMI output.

AV Toolbox ATSC-100 HDTV Off-Air Receiver, 1080i
Coby DTV-140 ATSC High Definition Set-Top Box
Tote Vision ATSC-100 Stand Alone ATSC/NTSC/QAM Receiver

Bonne chance mon ami, la vie chere; mieux t'acheter TV avec syntoniseur integrée (Better to buy a new tv w/ a syntoniser ATSC integer)

And ...by the way , is better to go in United Snaks to buy one is cheaper than here ;)
